MONTCLAIR, NJ - A new local community organization has been created to provide grant awards to black females and LGBTQ+ people in Essex County.
Organized by the students for Justice Coalition, a Montclair-based organization. the grant distribution project was designed to "support the dreams and lives of young black women and LGBTQ+ people in Essex County.
Bottom Up, What’s Your Dream? (BUWYD) is a grant distribution project organized by Students for Justice NJ to support the dreams and lives of young Black womxn/ women and LGBTQA+ people in Essex County NJ.
SFJ is a group of Montclair High School alumni and adults committed to investing in the lives of black femmes and LGBTQ+ people.
We are aiming to help 3-6 Black femmes and LGBTQA+ people by the end of September. We currently have enough money to support 2 people.
The grants start at $500 each. Our above stated goals are where we would like to start, as our funding increases we will be able to increase the number of grants given, as well as the amount.
Prospective Grantees will fill out an application outlining one of their personal, financial, or professional goals. Goals can range from taking steps to become more financially stable or pursuing new professional skills, to pursuing higher education or starting a business.
