“This is the first year that our district has participated in the New Jersey Department of Education Seal of Our Literacy Program,” said Superintendent Johnson.  “In addition to the award and medallion, all students also receive a seal that will go on their transcripts that states that they are a bi-literate young person.  These students went through a rigorous test, and I salute them and their parents.”

“This is a very special opportunity to have 43 students here with us, and it is really a testament to our program and the entire K through 12 district,” said Sedita.  “To receive this level of proficiency is quite the accomplishment.”

Director of Pupil Services Thomas Santagalo provided a year-end report regarding Special Education, with a complete data review of trends, programs, new systems and procedures, and professional development.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, several seventh-grade students from Glenfield Middle School took to the podium to address the board regarding the possible change in the schedule, reduction in the orchestra program, and the removal of ninth period.

Several parents also addressed the board regarding the schedule change, the possible removal of zero period, stating that students will be shortchanged by an 11% reduction in total instruction time.

The new and expanded board committee and liaison appointments are still in the process of being reorganized, and once the final board member appointment is made, that person will be added to new and existing committees.
