MONTCLAIR, NJ - On Monday, Township officials announced that a new member has been appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Montclair Board of Education.

Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson has appointed Sergio Gonzalez to fill Laura Hertzog’s unexpired term.

Gonzalez, an executive with Dell Technologies, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University and an MBA from Fordham University.

“I am thoroughly impressed by Mr. Gonzaelz’s intellect, his engaging personality, and his energy and commitment to Montclair and its public schools,” said Mayor Jackson.

Hertzog, who was serving as the Board president at the time, resigned in May, citing a culture of "toxicity" and "pettiness" as the reason for her abrupt departure. She had been reappointed to the Board in April 2018 before resigning nearly a year later. Her post had remained unfilled since her May 16 announcement.

According to published reports, Gonzalez and his family are new to Montclair.

He is a first-generation Cuban American and his wife, Maximilienne is a recently naturalized citizen from Montreal. They have a five-year-old daughter, Valentina, and three-year-old son, Mateo.

“I am so proud that this dynamic couple decided to settle in Montclair given their many options,” said Jackson.
