All children and teen programs are free. Registration begins on August 26 and is required for all programs unless otherwise noted. All are welcome, online registration is available for valid Montclair Public Library card holders. All others should call the Youth Services Department to be added to the waiting list.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. Get your library card and enjoy an animated film that celebrates literary treasures. Young Nat does not know how to read. He discovers a magical library where famous characters like Little Red Riding Hood and Captain Hook come to life. Nat learns that his storybook friends are about to vanish if they are not read and the only way to save them is for him to read an ancient spell. Not Rated. Flamenco Para Los Niños (All ages welcome)

Admission Nation of Montclair presents Spain’s riveting music and dance form known as Flamenco. With its colorful costumes and passionate sounds, this singular cultural program is expressly designed for children and their families.

Mmmm! What could possibly smell so yummy? Join Ms. Matilda as she reads Oge Mora’s “Thank You, Omu!,” a lovely story about Omu’s delicious stew and the importance of sharing and community in Nigerian culture. We will also enjoy some homemade stew and activities that will delight the whole family. Please advise of food allergies. 

Oge Mora is a Caldecott Honor Artist (2019) and winner of the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Award (2019). This program is part of the 50-50 Initiative in which libraries in all 50 states provide programs in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Coretta Scott King Book Award.


Kick and Play: Super Soccer Stars (12 months - 24 months)

Enjoy a parent-child movement program. Super Soccer Stars instructors and their puppet friends take toddlers through physical activity. They'll develop pre-soccer skills while learning to balance, run and kick. Children must wear lace-up or Velcro sneakers and shatter-proof eyewear if they wear prescription glasses. 


Game On: Wii and Board Games (Ages 4-17)

Are ‘wii board’ yet?  Come enjoy many games that are a lot of fun and offer a little bit of friendly competition. We will provide various Wii games (including but not limited to) Wii Sports Resort, Just Dance, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. In addition, we will offer various board games such as Don’t Wake Daddy, Creationary, LIFE, Clue, Connect 4, Operation, Twister, Mancala, Chess, and Backgammon to those who prefer to play traditional board games. GAME ON! Children ages 11 and under must have an adult with them to participate.

Join us for a screening of our Open Book/Open Mind interview with Julia Alvarez, author of “In the Time of the Butterflies.” Alvarez’s book was a summer reading assignment for Montclair High School and this event is a great opportunity to learn more about the author, book, and the context in which she writes.
