Montclair Resident with Medical Condition Gives Thanks to Compassionate Doctor

MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair resident Sharon Anderson has more than her share of medical conditions, disabilities and challenges, but through it all she maintains a positive and grateful attitude.  She knows it’s her strength of will and the care and support of her medical team that keeps her alive.

Battling Type II Diabetes, congestive heart failure (CHF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD ) makes every day a challenge, but with the support of Dr. Shalini Mali and her team of medical experts at Hackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Medical Center, Sharon Anderson never feels alone in her fight. “Dr. Mali is always honest and straightforward with me,” says Anderson.  “I know I’m in the best hands because she and her wonderful staff always dot their I’s and cross their T’s, no matter how busy they are. “

During the day Anderson gets around with the help of a walker, and at night she uses an oxygen tank and CPAP machine for obstructive sleep apnea.  She recently had laparoscopic surgery to remove an infected gall bladder. Dr. Mali and her team helped her recover from two pulmonary blood clots, and they are keeping a close watch on an adrenal gland tumor and kidney cyst.

“Dr. Mali treats me for the person I am, not just the conditions I have,” said Anderson. “She treats all her patients like that. Countless patients adore her and appreciate her kind and caring manner. My cardiologist, Dr. Ankitkumar Patel, has the highest regard for Dr. Mali, and he always has positive things to say about her.”

“It’s Dr. Mali’s infectious smile that everyone notices first,” continues Anderson. “She is much more than an excellent physician, she is a kind human being who gives her best to patients and engages with all who know her with grace and professionalism.”

Throughout her lifetime Sharon Anderson has seen Mountainside Medical Center grow and broaden the scope of its services and expertise. “I’ve lived my whole life in Montclair, and Mountainside Medical Center has been a respected fixture in the community serving Montclair and surrounding towns,” notes Anderson.  “I studied nursing and worked there for nine years as a nurse’s assistant on the oncology floor. That was tough but very rewarding.”
