MONTCLAIR, NJ - The Montclair Fire Department’s five probationary firefighters spent the past 10 weeks at the Morris County Fire Academy, where they received all training and certifications required to be firefighters in the State of New Jersey. Ryan Verney, Zachary Lynch, Natasha Richardson, Michael DeSomma, Brandonn Young successfully completed all fire academy requirements.

Academy training included physical fitness training, live burn training, training in fire behavior, search and rescue, heavy rescue, hazardous materials, fire suppression systems, firefighter safety and survival, tools and equipment, woodland fire suppression, incident command system, first aid, CPR and training in a host of other areas.  

The new recruits will have to successfully complete a probationary year before being sworn-in as full-fledged firefighters.
