MONTCLAIR, NJ - Longtime Montclair educator, Karen Wingfield, has passed away, officials announced.
A lifelong resident of Montclair, Wingfield has most recently served as a paraprofessional at Glenfield Middle School, says Montclair Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Nathan Parker.
She was a graduate of Hillside School. After graduating from Montclair High School in 1970, Wingfield graduated from Bloomfield College in 1975. She went on to serve the students of the Montclair school district for a total of 40 years.
In addition to her work with students in the classroom, school officials confirm that Wingfield took on additional important roles — advising the Black Student Union and serving as one of the coaches to the high school cheerleading team.
Parker wrote in an email to parents, "She was a very valued member of the community and the Montclair Public Schools, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time."
