TAPintoTravels - Google just doubled down on New York City with a cool $2 billion plus purchase of Chelsea Market.

Google already purchased its New York City - Chelsea Headquarters in 2010 for nearly $1.8 billion.

Chelsea Market is a New York landmark known now for its food court and high profile tenants.  The corporate tenants already include Google as well as the Oxygen Network, Food Network, MLB.com, and EMI Publishing.

It was originally built as a National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) baking factory in the 1890’s.  The complex is best known for inventing and producing the Oreo cookie.

Today, it houses retail favorites such as Anthropologie, Chelsea Market Baskets, Sarabeth's Bakery, Manhattan Fruit Exchange, BuonItalia, and Buddakan restaurant.

Anchored on the Highline, it is one of the most frequented landmarks by New Yorkers and tourists alike.

The only question left is whether Amazon will also invest heavily in our area.
