MONTVILLE, NJ - The Montville boys basketball team celebrated its seniors on Thursday night before the team went on the defeat Cedar Grove, 54-37.
Montville's head coach Bill Medina introduced each senior with inspiring words as he bid farewell to eight players who each took the opportunity during their last regular season game to come out strong and put points on the board.
Montville finished the first quarter up 20-8 and went into the half with a score of 37-17 over Cedar Grove. Regardless of the healthy lead, the Mustangs continued to work hard in the second half holding Cedar Grove to 20 points, just over Montville's 17 to end the game.
The lead scorer for the Mustangs was Liam Cassidy with 12 points, followed by Joe DelloStritto with 9 and Marc Tsukroff with 8. Each of the other five Montville seniors, Zach Warech, Matt McHale, Nick Bio, Tyler Sia and Tyler Coan all contributed to the win over Cedar Grove both on offense and defense.
Cedar Grove's top scorer was John Guiamano with 9 points.
At halftime, Montville held a half court shooting competition which was led-off by Tianna Groelly who was surprised at center court with a promposal by senior player Joe DelloStritto.
Montville (seeded 12) travels to fifth seed Sparta on Monday to play the first round of the NJSIAA North 1, Group 3 State Tournament at 7 p.m.
