MORRISTOWN, NJ –  The Morristown boys’ varsity basketball team never trailed in a convincing 54-35 home win over the Montville Mustangs on Saturday evening in Round 2 of the Morris County Tournament.

Luke Haralampoudis led the Colonials in scoring with a game-high 25 points, including six fourth quarter free throws to help ice the game.

Kevin Hoeden, who scored his 1,000th career point last week,  paced the Colonials offense and scored 15 points on the evening.

In the closing minutes of the game, tempers flared for the Mustangs as their double digit deficit proved to be insurmountable. Shortly after a scuffle under the net, the tall forward Jason Blanco slammed home a dunk, sending the capacity crowd into a frenzy.

“It just came out of nowhere, honestly,” Blanco said as he recalled the dunk, his second of the year. “I saw an open lane, went up and just flushed it.”

The Colonials, who led by 16 points at the half, held off an early third quarter rally which featured an 8-0 Mustangs run at one point. The Mustangs, however were unable narrow the gap any closer than that.

“I thought overall it was a really nice night to have both the girls and the guys play a home doubleheader in the tournament, not a lot of teams get that opportunity,” said Morristown head coach Bill Connolly. “We’re looking forward to getting a practice in on Monday and I know we’re going to have a tough opponent next week.”

The Colonials will host No. 5-seeded Hanover Park in the quarterfinals on Saturday, February 11.
