MONTVILLE, NJ – On Friday, July 20, Montville Township Brownie Troop 96548 helped paint the “thermometer” in front of the Montville First Aid Squad house. This started another phase of the First Aid Squad's fundraiser, “Bring the New Ambulance Home” called "Boots on the Ground." According to the committee chairman, Ed Coscia Sr., “This Brownie Troop has supported many of the squad's efforts. So, we wanted to keep them involved by helping us paint the red on the thermometer. Hopefully, they can help us get our message out to the community that we need help financially.”
Phase one began in May when all residents were mailed a brochure explaining our funding, goals and how to keep the First Aid Squad free. Coscia said, “We hoped to get a better response from the brochure for our new ambulance. Many people do not realize that tax money does not go directly to us. We need their donations to buy supplies, new ambulances, medicine, oxygen, bandages, etc. We raised about $70,000 with the brochure but we need to get to $220,000.”
This new phase began with the town's approval of two “thermometers” placed in front of the First Aid Squad to show the financial progress towards the new ambulance. “We will have ‘Boots on the Ground’ over the summer months,” stated Coscia. “This phase will entail First Aid Squad members knocking on our neighbors’ doors explaining that our funding comes from their direct donations, not their taxes. We need people to donate now! For $100 or more, your message or name will be put on the new ambulance and on the website for one year. This is a great way to advertise your business or say thank you to the squad for always being there.”
Tax deductible donations are still being accepted. Go to http://www.montvillefas.org/ or mail your check to Montville First Aid Squad, Box 416, Montville, NJ 07082. Volunteer dispatchers, drivers and EMTs are also needed. Training, a CPR course and uniforms are provided. You can volunteer for a 6-12 hour shift weekly by going to the above website to fill out the application.
