MORRISTOWN, NJ – In 2016 the Patriots’ Path Council will be the home of several new competitive rocketry Explorer posts and middle school clubs. An information session will be held on Saturday, April 30 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the local council service center (1 Saddle Road Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927). Each post and club will form teams of youth members. The youth members will participate in a national competition with other high school and middle school aged youth. The posts are forming now to begin planning for programs in early May.
Activities will begin as soon as each post and club is officially registers. Each team will design and build their own rocket. Several criteria based on times and distances must be met to qualify for the finals to be held next March in Virginia. Official qualifying flights will be documented by a TARC representative.
Exploring is a worksite-based program of Learning for Life, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America, for young men and women who are 14 through 20 years old (15 through 21 in some areas). Exploring units, called "posts", usually have a focus on a single career field, such as police, fire/rescue, emergency medical services, healthcare, law, aviation, engineering, or the like, and may be sponsored by a government or business entity.
