DENVILLE, NJ - After being awakened by police as he slept in his car early Monday, a Florham Park man banged his vehicle into a police car, led officers on a high-speed chase and was eventually arrested in Boonton when he ran out of gas, police said.
The man, Christopher Iossa, 18, was found to be asleep inside a 2015 Ford Mustang parked alongside Route 46 at 4:39 a.m., said police. They said the car's flashers were blinking, its windows were shut and its doors were locked.
"After several attempts to wake Iossa, he woke up and accelerated away from the scene," police said. "While attempting to leave from the scene, Iossa rolled into a Denville Police vehicle."
Police said Iossa then sped down Route 46. The pursuing officers were unable to stop him and decided to end the chase, but Iossa was found "minutes later" on Route 287 by Boonton police "after his vehicle ran out of gas," police said.
Iossa was charged with a slew of offenses including eluding police, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, police said. He was placed in the Morris County jail pending a court appearance, police said.
