MONTVILLE, NJ - This afternoon's thunderstorms left a trail of downed trees and wires across Montville. Some residents are experiencing power outages. 

Montville Township police issued the following alert just before 6 p.m.: "There are multiple trees and power lines down throughout the town. Do not touch downed lines. Crews are responding to multiple requests for service and we ask for your patience. Please do not call 911 for information, it is for emergencies only. Call JCP&L to report power outages.”

Just before 8 p.m. the police reported the following roads were closed:

  • Bloomfield Ave heading into the Caldwell’s from Rt 46 East due to power lines in the roadway.
  • Route 202 into Lincoln Park past Alpine Road.
  • Changebridge Road at Stiles Lane.
  • Barney Road.
  • Pinebrook Rd at Peace Valley Road.

According to JCP&L, Montville Township had 2,636 out of 9,294, or 28%, of its customers without power as of 9 p.m. JCP&L’s website indicates that an estimated restoration time “will be provided when available.”
