MONTVILLE, NJ – The Towaco Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at Dan Como and Sons landscape supply in Towaco on July 18 where the company’s mulch grinder machine had caught fire, according to Chief Kenneth Breeman.
Three engines responded to the fire at the business, located off of Jacksonville Road, at approximately 10 p.m., where the machine had ignited. Employees had been using the machine earlier in the day, he said.
The fire service was able to extinguish the fire within about 15 minutes, he said. The cause of the fire is unknown, although Breeman suspected a machinery malfunction.
Dan Como said he also suspected a faulty part on the machinery.
“Preventive measures were taken by us as soon as we discovered the fire,” he told TAPinto Montville. “It was a freak accident and the machine suffered minimal damage that can be fixed. We’re thankful for the Towaco Fire Department’s help. We were up and running, business as usual, the next day.”
