MONTVILLE, NJ - A 70th Anniversary Dinner in celebration of the founding of the Garden Club of Montville was held at the Lake Valhalla Club in Montville on June 24.

The Montville Garden Club actually started as the Lake Valhalla Garden Club on May 15, 1945 when seventeen ladies who were friends and neighbors living in the Lake Valhalla section of Montville, and enjoyed gardening and sharing plants and information about gardening, gathered at the home of Mrs. Mae Higgins for a Tea.

The group chose Mrs. Madeline Mason as the first president and Mrs. Reynolds as vice president. The others present were: Mrs. Bjerregaard, Miss Forshay, Mrs. Rowe, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Beach, Mrs. Roche, Mrs. Higgins, Mrs. Terwilliger, Mrs. Weeden, Mrs. Yonkers, Mrs. Treiber, Mrs. Showel, Mrs. Salisbury, Miss Greenaway, and Miss Rost.

The Anniversary Dinner was a lovely evening with active members and spouses attending as well as many past members.
