With the influx of travellers has come an astounding array of restaurants, a dozen of which stretch along West Bay beach and a dozen more a short water taxi ride away in West End.
Menus throughout the island pay homage to mass tourism with typical North American fare, joined by fresh seafood or a traditional Honduran baleadas for as little as 20 Lempiras -- around $1 -- in places. If you're looking for a snack, beach vendors will happily offer up delightful empanadas or the now-famous banana doughnuts.
While some resorts now offer an all-inclusive option, most travellers take great delight in venturing beyond their four walls. Nightly specials -- from coconut shrimp at Beachers to lobster dinner at Foster's, from the exquisite sea bass at Grand Roatan to the pizza at Thirsty Turtle -- abound, with live entertainment setting the carnival-like atmosphere up and down West Bay. In quirky West End, places like Sundowners, Eagle Ray's and Argentinian Grill are always hopping. And a trip wouldn't be complete without a Monkey La-la, a decadent concoction featuring Bailey's, Kahlua, coconut cream, rum, vodka and pineapple juice. Don't say you weren't warned.
