Mark Your Calendar: Important Dates for 2016-2017 School Year for Montville Township School District


MONTVILLE, NJ - Now that the calendar has officially reached the middle of August, it is time for parents to start thinking and planning for students to return to school in September. It's also time to mark the planners and smart phones with important dates to remember. 

All students in the Montville Township Public School District start school on Tuesday, Sept. 6 with Back to School Nights being held on Wednesday, Sept. 14 for all five elementary schools; Thursday, Sept. 15 for Lazar Middle School; and Wednesday, Sept. 21 for the high school. 

As a result of the Back to School Nights, the first early dismissal for all seven public schools will be on Friday, Sept. 16.

All Montville Township Public Schools will be closed on the following dates:

  • Oct. 3 & 4, 2016 for Rosh Hashanah
  • Oct. 12, 2016 for Yom Kippur
  • Nov. 10 & 11, 2016 for NJEA Convention
  • Nov. 24 & 25, 2016 for Thanksgiving Break
  • Dec. 26 - 30, 2016 for Christmas Observance and Winter Break
  • Jan. 2, 2017 for New Year's Day Observance
  • Jan. 16, 2017 for Martin Luther King Day
  • Feb. 20, 2017 for President's Day
  • Apr. 10 - 14, 2017 for Spring Break and Good Friday Observance
  • May 29, 2017 for Memorial Day Observance

Early Dismissals for the Montville Township Public Schools are as follows:

  • Sept. 16, 2016 (Grades K-12) for Post Back-to-School Night
  • Nov. 7 - 9, 2016 (Grades K-8) for Parent Conferences
  • Nov. 23, 2016 (Grades K-12) for Thanksgiving Break
  • Jan. 24 - 27, 2017 (Grades 9-12) for Mid-term Exams, High School
  • Mar. 1 - 3, 2017 (Grades 6-8) for Parent Conferences, Middle School
  • Apr. 5 - 7, 2017 (Grades K-5) for Parent Conferences, Elementary Schools
  • June 14 - 16 & 19, 2017 (Grades 9-12) for Final Exams, High School

The last day of school for the Montville Township Public Schools is Tuesday, June 20, 2017.

According to the school district calendar, if more than six emergency school closings are utilized, days will be deducted from the calendar in the following order:

  • Apr. 10, 2017 (Day 1)
  • Apr. 11, 2017 (Day 2)
  • Apr. 12, 2017 (Day 3)
  • Apr. 13, 2017 (Day 4)

If fewer than four emergency days are used, the school district calendar indicates that school will be closed on announced days with advanced notice to the community.

The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 7:45 p.m. at the Municipal Building. The schedule of meetings for the Montville Township Board of Education can also be found on the school district website (Board of Education Meeting Schedule).
