MONTVILLE, NJ - Montville’s baseball season came to a close on May 30 when Morris Hills defeated them 6-1 in the Semi final round of the State Tournament. The Mustangs kicked-off the tournament with a 3-2 win against Sparta and 2-0 win against Indian Hills, but came up short for a chance to compete for the North Jersey Section 1 Group 3 Title.
Montville came out on top of their regular season contest against Morris Hills in a 12-3 victory. Head Coach Joe Cardinale exclaimed that, “We could not get anything going offensively against their pitcher: he did a really good job keeping us off balance, mixing up speeds and locations.”
When the team prepares for next season Cardinale revealed that he will “no doubt miss their heart,” when thinking about the graduating seniors. Furthermore he said, “They all carry a certain intangible toughness that allowed us to have some of the success from this year, and they’ll be sorely missed.”
With a talented collection of returning players, the Mustangs will be back next season to re-embark on another successful and challenging journey at the state tournament title.
