MONTVILLE, NJ - The Montville girls basketball team extended its unbeaten record to 20-0 with a 48-33 win over Mendham on Monday night at Montville Township High School.
The game marked "Senior Night" for the team, as its four seniors- Emma Wax, Livia Shine, Reese Henderson, and Gianna LaScala were all honored.
When asked how it felt to win on senior night and to be undefeated, Wax said, "It's awesome! We had high expectations but I think the expectation to be 20-0 is kind of crazy, but we are, and we're thrilled. We obviously have a lot left to do; we haven't accomplished all of our goals yet but to win on senior night is awesome and to be 20-0 is really special."
"We've been working really hard these past four years and for us to come this far this year is really nice and bittersweet for our senior year," Shine said.
Henderson added, "Our team chemistry is really at an all-time high this season. We have big games coming up this week, so we're really focused on that."
"I love the team," LaScala said. "Our senior year has been great. I'm super excited to see where we can take the rest of the season."
Junior Bella Vito led the way on Monday night with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Wax added 15 points. Freshman Grace Kowalski contributed eight points for the Lady Mustangs. Montville raced out to a 12-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.
