MONTVILLE, NJ - The Montville Township Drug Awareness Council— Municipal Alliance hosted its 32nd Annual Project Graduation on Thursday, June 23rdat the J.C.C. in West Orange.

The overnight event, which provides Montville’s high school graduates with a safe, engaging environment filled with activities, food, and entertainment, serves as a capstone to their high school careers before moving on to college, the armed forces, or modern workforce. As the longest-running program of its kind in the State of New Jersey, Montville’s Project Graduation brings together a number of communal sponsors each year to make the ambitious celebration a reality. The program, which boasts a variety of activities and entertainment ranging from laser tag and swimming to basketball and illusionists, typically comes at an annual cost of more than $20,000; a sum covered almost entirely by private donations.

With recent lulls in Project Graduation attendance and local donations received, the program made headlines earlier this year when word began to spread that the planning committee was considering implementing admission fee. The idea was ultimately rejected, but garnered an immediate communal response. Hoping to continue the tradition of Project Graduation being a communal gift for our graduates, a number of our neighbors reached out to support the cause. Numerous local sponsors including private citizens, businesses, parent-teacher councils, and civic organizations banded together over the past few months to help make this year’s Project Graduation an impactful one. The volunteer planning committee would particularly like to thank its key sponsors, the MTHS School of Rock, the Montville Knights of Columbus, Shoprite of Parsippany, Condurso’s, Montville UNICO, the Montville Township Committee, The Montville Township Board of Education & Public Schools, and the Montville Township Police Department for their instrumental support of the program.

This year, 219 graduates, more than on half of their class, attended this year’s event and over $16,000 was raised to fund the program. The members of the Project Graduation Committee, along with the rest of the D.A.C., extend their thanks to the Montville community for all of their help this year in making Project Graduation 2016 a success. Everyone who took the time to make a donation or volunteer their time to the event has played a crucial part in capping off the careers of our dedicated Montville Graduates. We hope you will consider joining us once again to carry the tradition forward for the Class of 2017 and beyond, more information on volunteer opportunities is available by contacting us at MTHSProjectGraduation@gmail.com.Thank you to all of our friends and neighbors for their continued support & best wishes to the Class of 2016!
