MONTVILLE, NJ – Young Montville Township residents brought their parents to the annual fishing derby at Masar Park pond on May 5 to try their hand at landing the ultimate catch.
Zoey, age 5 and a half, was there for the first time, her mom said, but hadn’t caught anything yet.
“She keeps petting the worms!” she said with a laugh.
Brothers Braedon, 5, and Logan, 4, were having some more luck, their mom said. Braedon had already caught a sunny, but Logan hadn’t caught anything yet. Still, he had a smile on his face and kept trying.
Mak and his friends Andrew and Aaron picked a spot on the far side of the pond.
“It was hot yesterday, but it’s cold today,” said Aaron. “We had to wake up early to come. We agreed that we couldn’t catch the turtle that’s right there sticking out of the pond.”
Mak said he had been there since 8 a.m. but hadn’t caught anything yet. Soon after he caught a sunny, though.
The following kids won gift cards from the Montville P.B.A. Local 140, Montville Kiwanis and Fairfield Fishing Tackle. Montville Township Recreation would like to thank the Montville Township Police Explorers and the R.E.A.CH. volunteers for their help.
