Montville Township Committee Awards Anniversary Poster Contest Winners

MONTVILLE, NJ - Poster winners of the Montville Township 150th Anniversary Poster Contest received their prizes at the Montville Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 13.

Winning posters can be viewed at town hall until after the July Fourth events.

The themes for the posters were: What I Like Best about Montville, My Favorite Place in Montville and Growing Up in Montville.

The contest was open to all Montville Township residents and students attending schools in Montville Township.

Committeewoman Deb Nielson gave out prizes to the poster winners. She thanked everyone who participated in the contest and noted the importance of learning what the youth think about their community. She said in 25 years these will be the people who will be celebrating Montville’s 175th anniversary and in 50 years, the 200th anniversary. Nielson noted that these students will be the community’s future leaders.

Posters were judged on creativity, imagination, and theme. The judges were the Montville Township Committee, the Historic Preservation Review Commission and other community leaders.

For the younger students, first prize winners received wristbands for carnival rides at the Fourth of July celebration, second place winners received carnival ride tickets, and third place winners received food vouchers. The older students received a monetary gift.

Nielson thanked Jennifer Dickson, township program assistant, and June Hercek, assistant township administrator, for all their help with the contest.

Winners for grades K-2: first place: Yunji Zhang – 1st grade; Valley View, second place: Kailyn Guijarro – 1st grade; Hilldale, third place: Brandon Lam – 2nd grade; Cedar Hill and honorable mention: Alexandria Dickson – 2nd grade; Cedar Hill.

Winners for grades 3-5: first place: Ines Lemee – 4th grade; Valley View, second place: Stephanie Brig – 3rd grade; Cedar Hill, third place: Jenny Jin – 4th grade; Hilldale, honorable mention: Gabriella O’Brien – 3rd grade; Valley View, honorable mention: Cynthia Daili – 4th grade; Valley View, honorable mention: Sarah Kang – 3rd grade; Hilldale and honorable mention: Charvi Kanna – 3rd grade; Valley View.

Winner for grades 6-8: first place: Mihir Tanguturi – 6th grade; Lazar, second place: Prakhar Tiwari – 6th grade; Lazar and third place: Lauro Justnes – 6th grade; Lazar.

Montville Township High School winners: first place: Stephanie Feaster – senior, second place: Emily Carver – senior and third place: Olivia Geffner – senior.
