MONTVILLE, NJ – The Montville Township Committee held a special meeting Tuesday, Aug. 25 to vote on and hold a public hearing regarding the sole item on the agenda, Ordinance 2015-19, which prohibits all unregulated pipelines within Montville Township's boundaries.
During the public hearing on the ordinance, Daniel Ortega, a community affairs representative of ELEC (Engineers Labor-Employer Cooperative) was the only member of the audience to address the Committee, calling the motion “unfair.”
According to Township Clerk Trudy Atkinson, the majority of Montville residents have supported an ordinance against unregulated pipelines in town and Ortega voiced the only opposition to the ordinance that Atkinson has heard.
The Township Committee unanimously passed Ordinance 2015-19, which amended a “Prohibited Uses” section of the “Land Use and Development” code that Township Administrator Victor Canning summarized as, “prohibiting unregulated pipelines within our boundaries.”
