MONTVILLE, NJ - There was a new face on the dais at the Montville Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 23. Leena Abaza, deputy township clerk, will be replacing Township Clerk Trudy Atkinson after Atkinson’s retirement in July.
Abaza said, “I am honored to have been selected to assume the township clerk position for Montville Township once Gertrude Atkinson, the current clerk, retires. I look forward to working with the Montville Township Committee and the Montville Township employees to serve the community of Montville Township.”
Abaza resides in Wayne Township with her family. She has been a resident there for 17 years.
Abaza graduated from Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from the Passaic County Special Police Academy and completed the Registered Municipal Clerk Certification.
She is currently registered in Thomas Edison State University to finish her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in General Management and working toward a Certified Municipal Clerk designation.
Abaza has worked in government for 17 years. She served as a special police officer class II and deputy clerk/assistant administrator in the Borough of Haledon.
Her hobbies include gardening, hiking, swimming, reading and being outdoors with her children.
