DELRAY BEACH, FL – Montville Township’s UNICO chapter has been and awarded the “Model Chapter” award for the best chapter in the nation at the national convention in Delray Beach, Florida on July 27, according to former chapter president Karen Arakelian.

During the 2017-18 year, the initiatives undertaken during Arakelian’s presidency that earned the prestigious honor included:

  • The “Turkeys for You” program raised $17,000 and UNICO supplied more than 1,800 turkeys and gift cards for trimmings for underprivileged people in our area
  • At Christmas, the chapter gave out more than 150 toys and gift cards to families in town
  • UNICO’s district bocce tournament that was held in the Montville Township Community Park raised more than $9,000, which was given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for cancer research
  • The Gloria Foundation was given $1,000 to support domestic violence victims
  • $10,000 in educational grants were given to local students including a first time “service above self” award for the hard work and dedication of Cameron Horn, the first recipient of this award
  • County College of Morris was given $15,000 for an endowment for students in need
  • Financial assistance was given to Montville residents in need totaling more than $5,000

“This award was achieved through the hard work of so many of our dedicated members,” Arakelian said. “It was a good year and we look forward to continuing to be a big part of the Montville Township community.”
