MONTVILLE, NJ – The Montville Township Committee meeting of Jan. 14 began with a moment of silence for resident Jerry Hug, who passed away Jan. 12. According to his obituary, he was a member of the zoning board of adjustments, a president and founding member of the Montville High School Hall of Fame, a president of the Montville Kiwanis, a Chamber of Commerce Businessman of the Year and longtime coach of Montville Broncos girls softball, boys basketball and little league teams.
Committee Member June Witty said the VFW will be celebrating its 50th anniversary April 24 at the Lincoln Park American Legion Hall. Feb. 11 at 7:00 p.m., the Drug Awareness Council will be sponsoring a vaping awareness speaker at the high school. Jan. 28 there will be a Relay for Life meeting at the First Aid Squad, she said. She called the recent unity service and dinner at the Pine Brook Jewish Center “very moving and nice” (read about it here).
The township committee is interested in having a food truck ordinance regarding any trucks that come to the park during sporting events, for example. It’s still in its very early stages, however. The idea is to protect residents’ safety while still being fair to business owners.
The Montville Fourth of July events will be held June 25, 26 & 27 with fireworks on June 27, and a rain date of June 28.
