MONTVILLE, NJ - Despite some intermittent rain, on Saturday, April 26, The American Cancer Society Bark for Life of Montville took place at Montville Community Park. This noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners raised over $8,200 for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
This year’s event was co-chaired by Roberta Ginsberg and Letitia Huffstutler.
“We had an amazing turnout,” Ginsberg said. “The event was extremely successful, thanks to the 30 vendors with canine goods and/or services. There were door prizes thanks to all of the vendors and contests for best costume, best trick and best pet/owner look alike.”
The event included the fun walk, disc-jockey, food, demonstration from Morris County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, vendor shopping, contests, micro-chipping and pet adoptions.
“We had a great time at the event,” participant Jacky Vogt said. “There were food vendors, all sorts of animal service vendors such as training, grooming, boarding and products. My kids are big dog lovers so the best part for them was seeing all of the dogs and getting to pet and play with so many different dogs.”
Montville Township resident, Emily Michalak who performed in television's X Factor, led the crowd in the star spangled banner and the Montville Police Department and Montville Police Explorers monitored the event and helped out in various ways, as did the REACH students from Montville High School.
“I personally walk in memory of my mom, who passed away from lymphoma in 1999,” Ginsberg said. “Feedback has been great and people are already asking if we will do it again.”
