MORRISTOWN, NJ – Towaco resident Dilly Duka made a splash at his first FC Motown game, scoring the two goals that gave his team the win, 2-1 against the Red Bulls’ U23 team in the opening round of the US Open Cup played at Drew University.
Twenty-one minutes into the game on May 9, Red Bulls player Brian Samarago scored a goal with a point-blank header.
But then the game belonged to Duka as he scored at the 34 minute and 45 minute mark. The second half of the game was scoreless.
Duka’s contract with the Red Bulls expired at the end of 2017, and unfortunately he broke his ankle early in 2018 as reported by TAPinto Montville here: ankle. The mid-fielder plays with a slight limp and said he finished physical therapy three weeks ago. Wife Elizabeth, pregnant with twins, watched from the stands.
“My fitness is not there yet so I was floating up top,” he said of his two goals. “We don’t practice that often so we’re not a professional team. We’re a local group of guys competing in a cup like this, in some organized competition. This was a tough game.”
Duka will be playing in all National Premier Soccer League games for FC Motown and the State Cup Final for the Garden State Soccer League.
FC Motown Coach Sacir Hot said his goals are to “create a local powerhouse team in a highly competitive and nation-wide league. We target recent graduates who want to make the jump to the pros, so we also want to create a semi-professional environment for them. When it’s all said and done, we obviously want to win the National Premier Soccer League.”
Hot said that having Duka on the team makes his life easier.
“He brings an arsenal of weapons that our team isn't used to having. He is a game-changer. What's not seen is that he is a leader to our young guys and brings tons of experience to our team.”
