BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – A New Jersey-based pastor and pilot will fly to Texas this weekend to provide humanitarian aid to victims of Hurricane Harvey and then return Monday, Sept. 4 to Morristown Municipal Airport with 30 displaced rescue dogs through a joint effort with Home for Good Dog Rescue.

In 2007, the Reverend Andrew Topp of the First Reformed Church of Boonton, NJ founded the International Humanitarian Aid Foundation, which strives to provide assistance to those in need both locally and globally through a network of supporters, donors and volunteers.

"We try to respond to all needs that arise anywhere," Topp said. "So we've been able to respond to Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, Matthew in Haiti, and now, Harvey in Texas."

“We are so privileged to work with Pastor Andy in support of both the people and the animals of Texas,” Richard Errico, Home for Good Dog Rescue’s co-founder and treasurer said. “In the past, he has flown clean water filters and other vital supplies to the people of Haiti and then brought our rescue dogs home on his return trip north. This venture will be our largest together.”

Every dog that flies northward this Labor Day will directly enter Home for Good Dog Rescue’s care to the time of adoption.

“We are unique in that none of our dogs ever spends time in a shelter or kennel space in New Jersey,” Susan Strell, Home for Good’s Foster and Adoption Coordinator, explained. “All 30 dogs who arrive from Texas this week will immediately be placed with a well-trained volunteer family and then live in a loving domestic environment right up to the time of adoption.”

Home for Good Dog Rescue has partnered with the Saving Hope Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Forth Worth, TX, dedicated to ending animal euthanasia, preventing abuse, offering discounts on vaccines, and facilitating adoptions.

By flying home dogs from their adoption network to the Garden State, Home for Good and Topp will help create vital open spaces that rescue workers can fill with animals displaced from areas directly affected by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

The Saving Hope Foundation will then medically treat and care for those dogs to facilitate both new adoptions and reunions with families who may have become separated from their pets in the storm’s wake.

Founded in 2011, Home for Good Dog Rescue is a 100-percent foster-based rescue organization based out of Berkeley Heights, NJ.

It rescues homeless dogs from high-kill shelters in South Carolina and Georgia, socializes, cares for, and provides them life-saving medical care at a specialized rescue property in Aiken, SC, and then transports them to New Jersey for adoption.

To become a foster family for a rescue dog displaced by Hurricane Harvey, to become a volunteer, or to inquire about adoption, interested applicants can visit www.HomeforGoodDogs.org.

Dogs flown northward from Texas this Monday will be available for adoption by September 9 at Home for Good Dog Rescue’s Seventh Annual “Bark-a-Que” & Dog Adoption Event, a large-scale public fun fair and animal rescue event to be held at Meisel Park in Springfield, NJ.
