"My Book about Musical Instruments" written and published by Claudia Baumgaertner Lemmerz was awarded the gold Medal for the Moonbeam Children's Book Spirit Award in Music on Nov. 9, 2013 in Traverse City, MI.
This book presents a one of a kind introduction to the world of musical instruments for children of all ages. Filled with photos of kids making music, this book will make anyone want to try an instrument. Young pre-school aged children will relate to the over 100 photos in this book. Young elementary school readers will learn important facts and simple explanantions for each instrument that are child comprehendible as well as informative for adults. Printed in three languages side by side, English, Spanish and German, this multi-lingual book can be shared by readers and music lovers across generations.
The annual Moonbeam Award intends to bring increased recognition to exemplary children's books and their creators and to celebate children's books and life-long reading. 165 medalists were chosen from over 1,200 total entries for the 2013 Moonbeam Children's Book Award. The winners represent 35 U.S. States, five canadian Provinces and seven countries overseas.
Creating books that inspire children to read, to learn and to dream is an extremely important task and these awards were conceived to reward those efforts. Each year's entries are jugded by expert panels of youth educators, librarians, booksellers and book reviewers of all ages. Award recipients receive gold, silver and bronze medals and stickers depicting a mother and child reading and silhoutted by a full moon with the wording: celebrating youthful curiosity, discovery and learning through books and reading.

With her "Touch the Music" program, Claudia brings real orchestral instruments into preschools and elementary schools to give children and students the opportunty to try out all kinds of instruments. Children and students fall in love with music making instanly. "Touch the Music" also participates regularly in the Pre-Concert Adventure of the New Jersey Symphony Family Concerts at NJPAC in Newark.
