BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Ridge girls basketball team put together two solid runs on Saturday, but each time, Montville's Kelly O'Reilly had the same answer for them.
O'Reilly, a senior guard committed to Manhattan College, fired in seven 3-pointers and finished with 27 points to lead Montville to a 52-45 girls basketball victory over Ridge.
Senior swing Chrissy Weyrauch led Ridge (4-5) with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists. She has 50 points over her last two games.
O'Reilly, whose performance Saturday was in keeping with other recent efforts in which she scored 28 and 25 points, torched Ridge's 1-3-1 zone with her perimeter shooting, sinking her first three attempts from beyond the arc in the opening quarter and not slowing down until Ridge switched to a box-and-one defense midway through the third quarter, with Kristen Miscia hustling all over the floor to effectively shadow the Montville sharpshooter.
Trailing, 15-9, Ridge reeled off 11 points in a row bridging the first and second quarters to take a 20-15 lead. Montville regrouped to take a 29-24 lead into halftime. With center Amanda Gerdts coming alive in the lane, Ridge opened the third quarter with six straight points to take a 30-29 lead, but a pair of O'Reilly treys against Ridge's 1-3-1 look gave the visitors a 35-30 lead, launched them on a 10-0 run and forced the Red Devils to adjust their defensive tactics.
Sophomore guard Sammy Weyrauch finished with nine points and seven rebounds for Ridge.
Jordan Strickland finished with nine points, nine rebounds and seven assists for Montville (5-3).
