MONTVILLE, NJ — Montville Township police issued a Nixle alert at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday asking residents to help identify an elderly man they found walking along River Road near the Parsippany border, and by 4 p.m. the man was successfully identified.

Montville police saw the man on River Road at around 6 a.m. "He was unable to provide his name or home address and had no identification with him," Montville Police Captain Andrew Caggiano said. However, he appeared to be "in good spirits."

Hours into their investigation to identify the man, Montville police were advised by the New Jersey State Police of a missing persons report out of Plainfield, NJ, Caggiano said. The Plainfield police department confirmed that this was the 70 year old man who had been reported missing from a group home in Plainfield.

To update the public on the status of the man from the Nixle alert, the following message was posted on Montville Police Department's Facebook page, "The Montville Twp. Police Department wishes to thank all those who responded to our call for assistance. The gentleman has been identified and is returning home."
