Seven Lazar Students Awarded Spots in North Jersey Regional Honors Music Programs

MONTVILLE, NJ - Seven students from Robert R. Lazar Middle School were selected to participate in the North Jersey School Music Association (NJSMA) Regional Honors Junior High School Band and Chorus. The students auditioned on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Clifton High School, along with over 1,500 other students from across North Jersey. 

According to the organization’s website, the NJSMA Regional Honors Band and Chorus selected roughly 100 students for each program.

Out of the more than 1,500 who auditioned, the following Lazar Middle School students were chosen:

In the Band:

Jennifer Weiss, grade 8, was selected as 1st chair clarinet. The devoted musician played 4th chair last year in the NJSMA Regional Honors Band.

In the Chorus: 

  • Altos: Mrudul Nagapurkur, grade 7 and Griffin Smolar, grade 7.
  • Sopranos: Madison Bustamante, grade 8; Christine Sun, grade 8; Jenny Sun, grade 8 and Ananya Bijala grade 8.

All NJSMA Regional Honors musicians will rehearse and perform extensively throughout Northern New Jersey from now through the end of the academic year. For a full listing of performance venues see the NJSMA website (NJSMA.com)
