Some people like to sit with a good book. Others like to take a nap. Regardless of what you like to do, you should always take time for self-care.
As a working woman, wife and mother, I seldom have free time. I must force myself to schedule some “me” time. Why? Self-care boosts a person’s self-confidence, improves mood, and improves overall physical well-being.
I know many people think self-care is selfish. Women especially may feel guilty about taking time for themselves, rather than caring for their families. It’s not selfish. It’s necessary. In order to take care of others, you need to refuel your own mind, body, and soul.
How can do you this?
Schedule time each day for something that boosts your energy: exercise, meditation, or a power nap. Besides physical benefits, exercise also boosts a person’s mood and relieves stress.
Choose activities that bring you pleasure while easily fitting into your schedule. A 10-minute walk can be squeezed into any day.
Take time to eat a healthy meal. Taking care of your stomach will ensure you have the fuel to take on any task.
Monitor your technology consumption. Enjoy time with family and friends without being interrupted by cell phones, text messages, and alerts.
Stick to your schedule. Make sure that the time you set aside for yourself is just for your relaxation and enjoyment. Don’t let work or family obligations creep into your self-care time.
Remember: you deserve it! And if you don’t take care of you, who will?
