MONTVILLE, NJ – Forty-year veteran Towaco volunteer firefighter Joe Gretkowski was honored by the New Jersey Firemen’s Home in Boonton for his dedication and devotion to the social needs of the residents there, according to Towaco Volunteer Fire Department officials.

Recreation Assistant Sheila Thiesfeldt, representing Firemen’s Home President Hugh E. Flood, came to the March 28 Towaco Fire Commissioners meeting to present Gretkowski with a plaque and a thank you for the Tuesday visits he has been making for the past two years.

“The residents of the Firemen’s Home look forward to his Tuesday visits, as he brings his compassion, thoughtfulness and willingness to help others,” she said. “I look forward to Joe’s visits and I enjoy working with Joe; he enriches the lives of our guests.”

Gretkowski said he enjoys seeing the smiles on the residents’ faces every time he visits.

Gretkowski is the fire department’s Toys for Tots coordinator. He also donates time to the Homeless Bus and the Montville Animal Shelter. He is a United States Army veteran.
