MONTVILLE, NJ - While writing book reports, second graders at Valley View Elementary School got into the Halloween spirit. The students combined reading and Halloween to create pumpkin magic.
Jack-o-lanterns were decorated by each student. The pumpkins represent a favorite storybook character from each of the books for which the second graders were preparing reports. The students then made presentations to their classmates and teachers.
The active learning project was introduced by Valley View's entire second grade team. Teachers, Kerianne Griffin, Jamie Matarazzo, Christina McGowan, Kathryn Slattery, Susan Spagnardi and Barbara Supel combined their efforts to make reading and presentations an exciting holiday activity.
Once the projects were presented, the Jack-o-lanterns were displayed in the school's Media Center for enjoyment of all Valley View students.
