MONTVILLE, NJ – Montville Township VFW Post 5481 hosted Montville Township High School senior Douglas Gologorsky for breakfast on June 14. Gologorsky has received an appointment to the Naval Academy at Annapolis.
Nine members from the post gathered on Flag Day for an annual tradition, meeting students entering the military. Gologorsky will report to the Naval Academy on June 27, just one week after high school graduation, and will have a five-year military obligation after college. Gologorsky explained the qualification process that led to his appointment, which included interviews with not only Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (D-11) but also with New Jersey’s U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Robert Menendez. The process included essay submissions and passing all the physical standards and tests, plus attaining a level of excellence in all his high school courses.
“After meeting Doug it was obvious to all in attendance why this well-spoken and respectful young man was chosen,” Post Commander Ken Hanzl said. “The post presented Doug with a framed certificate of congratulations, a Navy ball cap, a US flag pin and a one-hundred dollar bill. We invited Doug to attend any of our post meetings and events whenever he is back in town and we will keep him informed of our activities.”
