PASSAIC VALLEY, NJ – Seven Montville High School wrestlers survived and advanced to next week's NJSIAA Region 2 tournament after finishing in the top 3 of their weight class at Saturday's NJSIAA District 8 Tournament at Passaic Valley High School.

Connor Meytrott (138 pounds), Dominic Fano (152 pounds), Liridon Leka (220 pounds) and Parker Fox (285 pounds) each won their weight class and earned a berth in next week’s Region 2 tournament at Mount Olive High School.

Joining them is Brandon Teresa (second place – 106 pounds), Ronald Rumsby (third place – 126 pounds) and Joe Daddario (third place – 160 pounds), who each finished in the top 3 of their weight class.

As a team, Montville finished second, nine points behind District 8 winner Wayne Valley.

Meytrott cruised to the top of the 138-pound podium by pinning his first two opponents before winning by a 5-0 decision in the championship bout.

Fano won all three of his bouts via pin fall, including a technical fall in the 152-pound championship match.

After winning his first two matches of the tournament, Leka edged out Passaic Valley’s Thomas Marretta by a 5-3 decision to win the 220-pound title.

Fox repeated as the 285-pound champion by picking up two early pins in the semifinals and championship bouts.

120-pounder Phil Trovato just missed advancing to next week by placing fourth in the class.
