To the Editor,

As a freshman who just started college during the COVID-19 crisis, and for many other students who are in school during the pandemic, I have realized that I have been paying way more than I should for my education. I am paying for tuition and many small fees, including a campus fee even though I’m not even living on campus. Something that I don’t want to worry about on top of this is paying for expensive textbooks required for my classes.

How can we tackle this issue? The solution is open textbooks and educational resources. Not only are open textbooks affordable for all students, but they are also easily accessible and easy to circulate. The last thing any student should worry about is having to pay for their resources on top of their academics and career endeavors. Let’s make open textbooks and textbooks affordability a reality!
