MONTVILLE, NJ - For many in Montville Township, some things are returning to normal. This is apparent on Tuesday evenings at the township amphitheater with the return of the Concerts in the Park series.

Last week, on July 14, the first show took place with The Chapel Concert Band kicking things off. More recently, on July 21, a newcomer took the amphitheater stage and continued the fun: pop-rock party band Five Wheel Drive.

“We love having you, and I love your masks by the way,” said singer Pam Rogers.

Five Wheel Drive is made up of Montville’s Rich Parisi (band founder/bass), Ryan Daily (keyboards, from Branchburg), Pam Rogers (singer, from Long Branch), John Faschino (drums, from Hackensack) and Jerry DeMartino (guitar/vocals, from Philipsburg).

“We look forward to this summer highlight every year in Montville,” said Rich Parisi, who has played at the amphitheater in several other bands. “This is actually our first concert since March because of COVID-19. It’s great to be back on stage and jamming and to help the morale of the township. Events are more important than ever as they bring support to local festivities, encourage people to have fun outdoors and bring the faith.”

Aside from bringing the tunes of Blondie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benatar and Bruno Mars, the band members and their sound crew even brought pizzas and sodas with them for the show. And the township crowd, felt the fun and the faith.

“It’s wonderful that we can still attend these shows,” said Pink Brook resident Roy Nilsen. “It was starting to get stuffy indoors. I just wish it wasn’t so hot outside.”

For the next show, on July 28 at 7:00 p.m., Montville residents will get to see acoustic, classic rock band Degrees Below Zero, featuring Montville’s own Tony Mariani on drums. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to July 30.

The concert series has been organized by the Montville Township Parks & Recreation Department for over 15 years.
