MONTVILLE, NJ – It’s a yearly tradition that just gets better with time. Santa and Mr. Snowman were brought in by fire trucks to the Montville Township Municipal Building Dec. 5. This year’s Christmas tree lighting was postponed by inclement weather for a few days, but spirits weren’t dampened as loud voices of all ages sang along with designated choirmaster and DJ Elvis the Elf led Girl Scouts, parents and kids of all ages in carols while waiting for the two honored guests to arrive.
Then while the Montville Women’s Club served up apple cider, hot chocolate and cookies to waiting families, the R.E.A.C.H. kids and Elvis entertained them with songs, games and a Conga line as each family went into the conference room and took pictures with Mr. Snowman and Santa, some stopping to high-five the jolly elf or tell him their Christmas elf story, others crying with fear, unfortunately.
“Maybe next year,” one parent joked, as one daughter clung to her leg in fear of the guy in the red suit while her other daughter jumped right onto his lap for a photo.
Newcomers to Montville, the Kaminsky family came to the tree lighting for the first time. They loved the festive atmosphere. When asked what her favorite part about the evening was, daughter Nastassia enthusiastically said, “Seeing Santa!!”

Montville Township Recreation would like to thank the Department of Public Works for decorating the trees and placing all the decorations around the grounds of the Municipal Building, the Women’s Club, the Girl Scouts, Elvis the Elf, the fire departments, the R.E.A.C.H. kids, the Montville Police Explorers, and TAPinto Montville would like to thank Montville Rec and Pine Brook Vol. Fire Dept. for letting us use your photos.
