MONTVILLE, NJ – Recently, ground was broken for a self storage facility in Montville near the 287 ramp and Senior Center, and behind an existing office building.
Called CubeSmart Self Storage, the three-story building will be 98,000 square feet and will have 807 climate-controlled units.
Nick Minoia, who is owner of Diversified Properties, LLC, which is part of a joint venture with 1026 Real Estate Investors, LLC to develop the land, said at a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 25 that the weather has cooperated. Construction is expected to continue through the winter, since the foundation is to be poured before the first frost, he said.
The site was originally zoned in the 1980s for an office building that did not pan out, Minoia said. The building will resemble the office building to the front of 350 Route 202/Main Road, he said.
Mayor Richard Conklin, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony, said that when the township committee sees ground being broken, “it really is rewarding for us” because of businesses and the land use boards working together to come to a plan that works for both the town and the business. He said it’s also appreciated because it’s a ratable.
“We’re proud of Montville and we want to keep a certain motif here,” Conklin said. “Nick came in with a plan, and this is a franchise company – they have their cookie-cutter buildings. They worked with us very diligently to compromise their standard styles to appease us. I compliment Nick for doing that, and we got an end product that we can all be proud of. Nick, excellent job, it was a pleasure working with you, and thank you for coming to Montville.”
