MONTVILLE, NJ – The Montville Township Republican Club installed its officers for the 2020 term at their inaugural meeting on Monday, Jan. 27. Officers were sworn in by Montville Township Deputy Mayor Rich Cook. Leading the newly installed board, Michael Johnson will serve as Club President. Johnson, a previous Board of Education member and President of the Montville Kiwanis Club, served as Vice President of the Club for the past five years. The gavel is handed down by Brielle Cook, who will be stepping into the role of First Vice President after serving as Club President for the past three terms. The MTRC Board also welcomes Heidi Calcagno as Director of Communications. Previously the President of Woodmont PTA and the Presidents Council in Montville and the Manager for Montville Girl Scouts, Calcagno has handled event publicity for local non-profit organizations for many years. Professionally, she is also experienced in e-mail and social media marketing for small businesses.
The year 2020 is critical for Republicans as President Donald J. Trump seeks re-election this fall. The Congressional seat overseeing CD-11, previously held by long-time public servant Rodney Frelinghuysen and won by Mikie Sherrill (D) following his retirement in 2018, is also one to watch as prominent tax attorney and Republican Advocate Rosemary Bechhi has announced her bid to unseat the freshman representative.
“It’s going to be a busy year, a challenging year,” said Johnson, “But our members are more energized than ever before. With everything that’s transpired these past few months on impeachment, they’re ready to stand and have their voices heard.”
The Montville Township Republican Club generally meets the fourth Monday of each month at the Montville Township Senior House (356 Route 202/Main Road). Light refreshments are served starting at 7:00 p.m. and the business portion of their meetings begins at 7:30 pm. Membership is open to all registered Republicans. For more information, please visit MontvilleGOP.org or e-mail the Club at MontvilleRepClub@Gmail.com.
“Republicans of all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome,” adds Johnson. “It’s a big tent. Our goal is to promote discussion and foster an exchange of ideas that will best serve our community, our state, and our country in the long-run. That’s a passion we share with our Democratic opponents, and a common rallying point I hope we can all keep in mind as we advance toward what is sure to be a heated election cycle.”
This year’s MTRC officers are:
- Michael D. Johnson, President
- Brielle Cook, First Vice President
- Robert Lowenfish, Second Vice President
- Letitia Mandola, Recording Secretary
- David Yen, Corresponding Secretary
- Howard Chesler, Treasurer
- Margaret Lam, Sergeant at Arms
- Heidi Calcagno, Director of Communications
The next meeting of the Montville Township Republican Club will be held on Monday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Montville Senior House.
