MONTVILLE, NJ – As residents came for Montville Day on Oct. 13, they also wandered down the hill to the high school parking lot for Truck Day, where lots of area construction companies and public agencies gathered to allow families to climb into and learn about the big rigs.
Montville, Pine Brook and Towaco Fire Departments brought their trucks out, as did the First Aid Squad.
Anthony Luciano from Condursos said he brought his front end loader and dump truck because he grew up in town and always support these kinds of events.
“I do it for the kids, I love to see their faces,” he said.
Parents said their kids were excited to see the trucks in real life that their kids had watched in videos.
Towaco resident Rachel Infusino brought her son Tommy, and said that her son loves construction trucks – “Well, all kind of trucks, really,” she said. “He also thought it was cool to see trucks that help people, like the ambulance the fire trucks, and the police car. And he absolutely loved seeing the SWAT truck.”
Kristina Scorpo brought her 3 1/2 year-old son Francesco to the event, and he was definitely in his element.
“He’s been obsessed with fire trucks since he was really little, so he was utterly amazed to see them up close and put on the garb,” she said. “He’s been a fire fighter the past two years for Halloween. I grew up in town and we never had anything like this when I was little, so this was really cool to have for our kids. It also helps the kids to not be afraid to talk to police officers and fire fighters, when they see a stranger in uniform. The EMS workers got down on his level and talked to him so he and other kids can put two and two together to realize they’re safe around them. It was really cool.”
The Montville Township Police Department would like to thank A Rent-All Center, Condurso’s, Corigliano Towing and Recovery, D&R Contracting, Dan Como & Sons, Don Crownover Excavating, Leonard Militello and Sons, Montville Township DPW, Morris County Hope One, Morris County Sheriff’s Department, the Newark Office of the FBI, and the Montville Township First Aid Squad and all three fire departments for participating.
