Dear Montville Township Community Member,

We hope that this communication finds you and yours safe and well. Wednesday, Governor Murphy held a press conference indicating that while New Jersey has seen its number of daily new COVID-19 cases, deaths, and hospitalizations fall significantly since peaking in April, we are still seeing community transmission. In fact, this week our state’s transmission rate rose slightly this week, exceeding 1.0 for the first time in 10 weeks (meaning that on average, every newly infected resident is now passing COVID-19 to at least one other person). As a result of this, the Governor passed an Executive Order that will now require people to wear masks outdoors in public whenever they can’t practice social distancing.

We would like to thank all of the Montville Township residents, business owners, and visitors for their diligent efforts in trying to prevent transmission of COVID-19 in our community. By practicing social distancing, wearing a mask, and maintaining good handwashing habits, and monitoring ourselves for signs of illness, we are all making a difference! In fact, the number of current cases in our Township this week went down to three, the lowest it has been since our first case was recorded on March 18th.

This is very encouraging news for our Township, but we should be careful to not let down our guard just yet. Until there is a proven and effective treatment, or a vaccine, our only weapons in the fight against this deadly disease is to continue with social distancing, masks, handwashing, and monitoring health. With businesses, programs, and activities being gradually restarted, which inevitably increases the opportunities for us all to come into contact with each other, vigilance is more important than ever. Together, we will keep our community as safe as it possibly can be in these challenging times.

As always, the Mayor, Township Committee, Township Administration, and Township Departments stand ready to assist our community with guidance and support.
