MONTVILLE, NJ – In a sign of the times, the Montville Township Committee met via telephone on March 24. The public could dial in to hear the meeting live, and could also speak via telephone during the times that they would normally be allowed to speak, during the public portion and during public hearings for resolutions.
The meeting began with a moment of silence for Montville VFW Post 5481 member Ralph Amato, who succumbed to the Coronavirus.
The committee voted to spend $461,000 from the Open Space fund making improvements at the Community Park:
- Youth Center sidewalk replacement - $100,000
- Amphitheater replacement project - $300,000
- Picnic tables and benches for pavilion - $16,000
- Resurfacing Community Park basketball court - $25,000
- Replacement of basketball standards at Community Park basketball court - $20,000
Township Administrator Victor Canning said he wanted to personally thank the entire township Office of Emergency Management team, the Health Department, and all first responders for their actions in handling the current Coronavirus crisis. Mayor Frank Cooney agreed, and said that everyone is doing an amazing job. Deputy Mayor Cook said he wanted to “echo the administrator’s comments – everybody’s doing a great job.” Members Richard Conklin, Matt Kayne and June Witty agreed.
Canning thanked the public for sheltering in place.
“We’re looking forward to getting through this,” Cooney said.
Municipal Court is cancelled through April 26.
