ASID New Jersey chapter president-elect recognized for excellence in interior design

Montville, NJ resident Sandy Cabelis, owner of Cabelis Interior Design, LLC, won three awards for her work in the 2019 Design Excellence competition, held by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). ASID NJ designer members from all over the state had the opportunity to submit their best work in design categories, such as whole house design, kitchens, bathrooms, showhouse spaces, commercial design, hospitality design and more. Entries were judged anonymously by past award winners from across the country. The competition winners were announced on June 19 at the annual Design Excellence Awards Gala at The Venetian in Garfield, NJ.

Cabelis won awards for three of her design projects in the following categories: Residential Two or More Spaces for new construction in Franklin Lakes, NJ; Residential Specialty or Unique Spaces for a pool house in Montvale, NJ; and Residential Large Bathroom for Montville, NJ residents, Jan and Al Gunneson, owners of Gunneson Construction, LLC, who led the renovation construction.

“Sandy is a complete pleasure to work with!” said Jan Gunneson.  “Her style esthetic and attention to detail is amazing!  She made an overwhelming project manageable and fun. I have worked with her on a number of projects and I am not sure how I ever managed without her.  My new bathroom has been life changing!”

Cabelis has been recognized by her peers for her contribution to the industry, and her work has been published in several prestigious magazines, including Design NJ. She currently sits on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey chapter of ASID and was recently elected President with her term beginning October 1, 2020.

Cabelis enjoys public speaking, with her most recent engagement at Berkeley College, where she shared her passion and experience in the industry with future interior designers.

“When I began as a designer more than 15 years ago, I could not have imagined that I could translate my passion and creativity into such a rewarding career.” Cabelis said. “To be recognized by my peers for these coveted awards makes it that much more meaningful.”
