DENVILLE, NJ - Denville Police keep adding to the list of things you might avoid if being arrested is not your goal. The latest: Sticking a joint behind your ear and walking from your car into a loud party while the police are watching.
That's the nonchalant behavior that, according to police, resulted in the arrest of Derek Moore on Aug. 6.
Moore, a 20-year-old from Irvington, was charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, police said. The arrest came about because police were "monitoring the scene" of a party on Berdone Court, having gone there shortly after 6 p.m. due to a resident complaint, they said.
While police were watching, they saw Moore "exit a vehicle ... with a marijuana cigarette secured behind his right ear," according to report they issued today. "It was at this time that Denville Police spoke with Moore and a search of the motor vehicle he had just exited was conducted, as the vehicle itself had the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside of it," said the report.
Police said the joint stuck behind Moore's ear turned wasn't the man's sole supply for the night. They contend there was more marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia, inside the vehicle. After being charged, Moore was released pending an upcoming municipal court appearance, police said.
