MONTVILLE, NJ – A single vehicle car accident occurred on Konner Avenue near Gathering Road at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4. No injuries were reported, and the driver was alone in a black Kia, according to Montville Township Police Chief Andrew Caggiano. An eyewitness said the driver was a male.
The vehicle struck a utility pole, snapping it and bringing wires down onto the roadway. The Pine Brook Fire Dept. was dispatched and JCP&L spent the day removing two poles and installed new ones, according to neighbors. Power outages were noted on social media on streets such as Breton Place, Hilldale, Rennes, and of course Konner; JCP&L noted on its website approx. 20 families were affected.
Konner Road was closed from Gathering to Walnut for more than eight hours; at press time it was still closed. JCP&L was listing a restoration time of 10 p.m. on its website, although this had changed three times over the course of the day.
The accident is under investigation, Caggiano said.
